 Marcelo hás a studio in the center of São Paulo, a 20 minute walk from his home in Higienópolis, where he lives with his wife Marta and his sons João (8) and Paulo (4) and their fish Sun, who’s nickname is Sky. A typical day starts with 5 or 6 expressos at Aldino’s Café. Marcelo enjoys being able to often take 2 hours in the middle of the day to have lunch with his sons and then take them to school.
While studing for a degree in architecture at University of São Paulo, he spent many hours at the library looking at Graphis and Communication Arts. This was his education in Illustration. Seymour Chwast and Milton Glaser were an important influence.
Marcelo began his career as an illustrator working on assignments for children’s magazines and books. He soon began receiving assignments for adult publications such as Playboy, Vogue , the weekly Veja Magazine, the Folha de São Paulo Journal..
A trip to Europe gave him the desire and the idea to be a fine artist too. Today he is equally involved in fine art and illustration.
Since 2000 Marcelo has been writing and illustrating books.He hopes to begin illustrating children’s books for US publishers, and he would love to have some of his books published in the USA..Although they were written in Portuguese, they are universal in appeal
